Maria Cristina Loi
She graduated in Architecture at the University “La Sapienza”, Rome, in 1986. In 1989 she got a Master of Arts at the “Art History and Archaeology Department“, Columbia University, New York and in 1995 the Dottorato di Ricerca at “La Sapienza”. Three are the main fields of research. The first one regards architecture in the Usa : the process of definition of American Architecture after the Revolution, with particolar focus on the work of Thomas Jefferson and the relationship with Europe; the phenomenon of Palladianism. A second one is Italian architecture in modern and contemporary ages. In this field she studies mostly Milanese and Lombard Architecture: the identity of Milan and its relationship with other cultural contexts, in particular with Rome, and the issue of tradition and innovation. Studies have been carried on also on architectural Treatises and on the relationship architecture-painting-sculpture. A third one concerns Architectural Drawing: its role, evolution and modifications throughout centuries and its relationship with visual arts. Maria Cristina Loi published several essays and participated in and organized many congresses and exhibitions, with Politecnico di Milano and other institution such as the Accademia di San Luca in Rome and the Archivio del Moderno in Mendrisio (CH). In 1989 she started teaching and researching at the Politecnico of Milan. In 2002 she became Assistant Professor at the Facoltà di Architettura Civile of the Politecnico.
